Richard In Your Mind's catalogue now boasts 6 releases through Rice Is Nice, each and everyone cherished and adored.
Psychedelic pop quintet, Richard In Your Mind, are set to release their fifth studio album and first full-length release since 2014, Super Love Brain, this September 21.
Recorded between Sydney’s REC Studios and the band’s lush, forest-lined Blue Mountains home studio set-up, Super Love Brain is expansive, atmospheric and dynamic – a measured reaction to the physical landscape from which it was created.
Thematically, the album transverses between three solid points of reference. ‘Super’, is the ecstatic experience, like the music itself – full power. ‘Love’, from the loss of love, to friendship, to coming-of-age love, to obsession, and ‘Brain’, a dedication to the attempt to understand the machine that drives it all.
All I Can Do is our first taste of the upcoming album.
The ten track LP weaves abstract, guitar-driven pop melodies with whirling, echoed Magical Mystery Tour-esque vocals. The highest moments of Super Love Brain dance on the edge of perfect chaos, building upon themselves over and over again before returning to settle within the grounding, rhythmical percussion work of Carlos Adura (The Strides, The Tambourine Girls). There are moments of joy and elation, bookended by moments of introversion and darkness. Richard Cartwright describes the experiences behind these emotional shifts, from the sense of contentment and meaning that came with the birth of his first child, to the unexpected strangeness and disconnect after learning of the tragic death of a young friend.
Cartwright describes the album cover artwork, by artist and musician Myles Heskett, as a visual representation of the sound: “the picture we used really reminds me of a pastoral scene, a kind of hidden map to a magical landscape, with rainbow wheel sunrises and hidden dark towers, and roads and rivers rambling across space”.
Super Love Brain is set for release on September 21st via Rice Is Nice.

RICHARD IN YOUR MIND - PONDEROSA
Created over the last 2 years the album is a meticulously crafted, joyous, and bizarre collection of songs showcasing a plethora of strengths from this unique band. Sitars, synthesizers, vocal harmonies, groovy beats and an array of found sounds combine to create a kaleidoscopic pop dream of an album. From the singalong pop gem ‘Hammered’ to the beautiful and dreamy ‘Shooting Star, Ponderosa is a journey of exploration, discovery, spontaneity and escapism. Recorded by the band at their ever faithful Super Love Brain studio in the Blue Mountains, Ponderosa is a giant leap forward for the group in terms of performance and craftsmanship. Mixed and co-produced by regular cohort SPOD, the album features guest appearances from good friend Emily Wilton, former band-mate Jordy Lane, Alyx Dennison and even Richard’s wife Katie on the bittersweet duet ‘Crew of the Neptune’. Band leader Richard Cartwright explains the album’s name: “Ponderosa is the name of the ranch where the Cartwright family live on the old TV show Bonanza,” he says. “Being a Cartwright myself, people often make references to my distant television cousins, so Ponderosa to me is a quest to find the elusive imaginary ancestral ‘home’. Like most quests, it is the journey that is important, and often what one seeks outwardly, one can only find within.” If that sounds too heady don’t worry. Cartwright and his core band of surrealists (Conrad Greenleaf on bass, synth and guitar and Pat Torres on drums) have always found a way of taking the slightly off-kilter and converting it into beautifully relatable art and Ponderosa is no exception. Richard In Your Mind’s Ponderosa is a wild ride... one that makes perfect sense while you’re on it. PURCHASE 'PONDEROSA' HERE and BELOW.

ABOUT THE RELEASE
ALBUM OF THE WEEK – FBi 94.5 FM Sydney, 2SER FM Sydney, RTR FM Perth, Beat Magazine, Faster Louder, The Brag.
My Volcano sees the band expanding their musical vision ever outwards, traversing through fields of lush psychedelia, Odelay-esque party jams, lo-fi antifolk and tribal freak-outs. Richard In Your Mind’s ability to write such an incredibly eclectic record is an obvious achievement. Songs are lyrically colourful, beautifully composed, yet can be dark, dreamy, powerful, emotional and explosive all at once. Championing their second full-length album release the band enlisted the producing and mentoring powers of none other than SPOD.
The union of SPOD and Richard In Your Mind for My Volcano has ensured a kaleidoscopic and at times euphoric listen. SPOD worked with the band intensely during the lead up and recording, breaking the new material out of it’s shell when needed, developing and enhancing tracks, but at times leaving them lo-fi and beautifully raw the way it was always intended. Out of this dream collaboration comes a fresh and exciting band establishing themselves as a creative song writing force with strong, imaginative themes and clever sonic arrangements.

ABOUT THE RELEASE
A motley crew of extroverted dorks, shy bookworms and punch-spiking delinquents, the songs on the Summertime EP felt they didn’t need those new album songs to be cool. Instead they started their own club. From the early 90s hip-hop flavours of ‘Make It Chill’ through to the frenetic 60s- meets-now explosion that is ‘Summertime Boogie (do the)’, RIYM have crafted a super-fun half hour of music, best served with BBQs, beach volleyball and tasty, tasty naan bread. Richard In Your Mind’s Summertime EP is your one-way ticket to party paradise and inner tranquility.
